Standalone AOS Server

This topic describes steps to configure a standalone AOS server. You can configure an AOS server as a standalone server by moving the AOS to the default cluster. AOS servers in the default cluster do not participate in load balancing. You should make sure that the AOS server is not servicing any clients or application requests before you take the AOS server offline or perform any maintenance.

Steps to configure a standalone AOS server

To take an AOS offline for maintenance or single user mode, complete the following steps.

  1. Change your client configuration ( Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 Configuration) to point to this AOS server and connect to it. You can also use the command-line parameter to connect directly to the AOS server using the “-aos2=<servername>” and “-loadbalance=0” options. For more information on command-line parameters, see the Installation Guide. Use the Online usersform ( Administration > Online users) to make sure you are connected to this AOS server.

  2. Make sure other active AOS servers are available in the cluster to service clients after you take this AOS server offline.

  3. Use the Cluster configurationform ( Administration > Cluster configuration)to change maximum concurrent connections to one (1). Make sure that the load balancer field is not checked.

  4. Use the Microsoft Dynamics AX Configuration utility( Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 Configuration) to make sure clients are either pointing to an active load balancer or other AOS servers in the cluster.

Use the Server instancestab of the Online usersform ( Administration > Online users)to reject new clients for this AOS server. You can use the Client sessionstab in the Online usersform to see all users connected to this AOS server. You can either wait for user sessions to finish or ask the users to log off and log on again. When users launch the client, they automatically will be connected to another AOS server in the cluster.

  1. Use the Server configurationform ( Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 Server Configuration) to make sure "Is Batch Server" check box is clear or not checked.

  2. Once the AOS server is not servicing any clients, you can move it to the default cluster. AOS servers in the default cluster do not participate in load balancing.

  3. The AOS server is now in a standalone and single-user mode, ready for maintenance.
