Directory views are graphical representations of entities, such as companies, employees, and sites, in the Microsoft Dynamics AX system. There are three types of directory views: the , the , and the .

Relationships between entities are represented in directory views. For example, the Reporting Relationships View shows the hierarchy of companies, reporting managers, and employees.

Directory views provide context-sensitive actions for the entities that are displayed. For example, when you click an employee in the Reporting Relationships View, the action pane displays actions for modifying address and emergency contact information for that employee.

If you access a directory view from the module, information for the whole enterprise is shown. If you access a directory view from any other module, the view is displayed in the context of the company that you are currently logged on to.

Information from all companies can be displayed in a single view. Virtual companies and consolidation companies are not represented in directory views.

Note Note

Information displayed in directory views is affected by your security permissions. You can see only the information that you have access to.
