Routes are essential to the production part of Microsoft Dynamics AX. A route is a set of operations, or tasks, required for producing an item, their sequence, the work centers involved, and the standard times to set up and run the operations. An operation specifies the tasks involved in manufacturing an item, with the detail necessary to efficiently schedule production.
The following information must be set up in other modules before you can work with routes in the module:
General company information in the module in the form.
General ledger accounts in the module in the form.
Items in the module in the form. See Create an item of type BOM.
Work center groups – in the module in the form. See Set up and define work center groups.
Work centers – in the module in the form. See Create work centers.
Calendar – in the module in the form. See Create working time calendars.
After you set up prerequisites in other modules, you can set up the required information in the module.
In addition, you can set up parameters in routes and cost groups in bills of materials.
