When there is no production order on a bill of materials (BOM) that you report as finished, item issues for the BOM lines comprising the BOM item and an item receipt for the BOM item will be created automatically. (You must specify the date for reporting-as-finished, the item number and existing configurations, the BOM number, and the quantity to be reported as finished. Some fields are automatically filled in with relevant data from the Items table.)
Reporting-as-finished generates a BOM journal with the item issues and the item receipt. You can work in the journal as long as it has not been posted.
