All German companies must provide their monthly and quarterly VAT sale and purchase information to the tax authorities electronically. The German tax authorities offer their own approved interface—Elektronische Steuereklärungen (ELSTER)—for submitting electronic tax declaration. ELSTER can be used to submit several types of tax documents electronically, such as payroll tax declarations, income tax declarations, and several VAT statements, including the Sales VAT Advance Notification information.
