About production units

The production unit is an administrative unit that groups work center groups. A production unit reflects the physical layout of production resources and has no effect on transactions or how they are processed.

You can assign a picking warehouse and a storage warehouse to a production unit. The warehouse settings then apply for those work center groups that belong to the production unit. If the multisite functionality is activated, you must associate a production unit with a site.

You can use a production unit to consolidate and filter production-related data. A shop floor manager, for example, can view a convenient overview of the outstanding workload and the available capacity for a particular production unit.

Create a production unit

  1. Click > > .

  2. On the tab, press CTRL+N to create a new entry.

  3. Enter a unique identifier and a description for the production unit.

  4. Click the tab.

  5. If the multisite functionality is activated, you must select a site in the field to associate the production unit with.

  6. To assign a picking warehouse to the production unit, click the drop-down list in the field and select a warehouse. The list displays only warehouses of the type default. If the multisite functionality is activated and a site is associated with the production unit, the program displays the warehouses that are assigned to the same site as the production unit.

  7. To assign a storage warehouse to the production unit, click the drop-down list in the field and select a warehouse. The list displays only warehouses of the type default. If the multisite functionality is activated and a site is associated with the production unit, the program displays the warehouses that are assigned to the same site as the production unit.

  8. Save the record.

  9. On the tab, you can view the resources that are associated with each site.

Assign a work center group to a production unit

  1. Click > Common Forms> .

  2. On the or tab, select a site from the field. This step is required when the multisite functionality is activated.

  3. Select a production unit in the field. The drop-down list displays the production units that are associated with the site that you selected in the previous step.

  4. Save the record.

  5. The production unit and the site are inserted on all work centers that belong to the work center group.

In the form, you can view the production unit for an individual work center, but you cannot change it.

After you have created a production unit and assigned it to a work center group, you can filter the form by production unit.

Note Note

You can change the production unit that is assigned to a work center group. You can also delete a production unit. However, these changes to the production unit are effective only for new orders that are created after master scheduling is run. If you want to apply the production unit change to existing orders, you must do so manually.

The rules for changing a production unit that is assigned to a work center group apply regardless of whether the multisite functionality is activated.
