There are two main types of reports: ad hoc reports and preconfigured reports.
Ad hoc reports
Ad hoc reports are reports that users can create themselves. Users can select the data they want to display on the report and design the layout of the report.
To create ad hoc reports, you must integrate Microsoft Dynamics AX with SQL Server Reporting Services and SQL Server Analysis Services. For more information, see:
Preconfigured reports
Preconfigured reports have a default layout and appearance. Although users will not be able to modify the layout of these reports, they can filter and sort the data displayed on these reports.
Each Microsoft Dynamics AX module has preconfigured reports that users can generate and print. Some of the preconfigured reports are generated by using native Microsoft Dynamics AX functionality. Other preconfigured reports are generated by using SQL Server Reporting Services and SQL Server Analysis Services.
