Navigating the form

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

Tabs

Description

Overview tab

View the categories that have been created.

You can also specify whether the employee ID is required for posting to the active category and define the item sales tax group of the active category group.

General tab

View more specific information about the active category.

If an account applies for a specific posting type for all projects, you can select the account in one of the account type fields on these tabs.

The accounts listed on this tab correspond to the accounts listed on the tab in the form.

Buttons

Description

View the transactions for the active category ( , , , or ) depending on the transaction type of the active category. Only the active category transactions are available when you click Transaction. For example, if you have selected a category of type , you can only select transactions of type . The hours, expense, and fee transactions are dimmed.

Open the following submenu items:

  • – Maintain a list of employees authorized to use the cost category.

  • – Maintain a list of projects available for the category.

    Note Note

    The list is part of the validation system. You can set up validation groups in the > section.


  • – Set up a cost price for categories of the type.

  • , , , – Set up a sales price for categories of the hour, expense, fee, and subscription types.

  • – Set up subscriptions attached to the selected category of subscription type.

  • – Set up a line property for the category.

    Note Note

    You cannot attach a line property to a subscription category because line properties are not used for subscription transactions.


  • – Set up ledger posting by category.

    Note Note

    The list of records in this form offers a quick overview of the posting profile of one specific category.


Open the following submenu items:

  • – Create subscription transactions for the selected category of subscription type.

  • – Update the index/base price for subscriptions with the selected category of fee – subscription type attached to them.

  • – Accrue revenue for subscription transactions with the selected category of subscription type attached to them.

View the number of hours entered on categories. You can only view categories with the hour transaction type a PivotTable.

Open the form for categories.

Open submenu items to copy or delete a budget or transfer a budget to ledger.

The unique name for the category.

Enter a more descriptive name for the category, up to 30 characters long.

Select this check box to include this category in Expense management.

Select this check box to include this category in Production.

Select a category group. Category groups are specified in the form.

The transaction type of the category is inherited from the transaction type of the category group.

All categories in a category group will have the same transaction types.

Determine whether the employee ID will be defined for journal transactions.

Select an item tax group (optional).

Select this check box to use the category for estimates.

Select this check box to use the category for subscription.

Select this check box to set the category as active.

Select a default line property.

Select the ledger account that applies to this category group.

Select the ledger account that applies to this category group.
