Use this procedure to create category items, which are placeholders for non-catalog items. Non-catalog items typically are not part of your company's regular inventory because they are used immediately and not stocked, such as office supplies (unless your company sells office supplies).

When you create category items, you can include them in category catalogs. This makes the non-catalog items available for users to enter on purchase requisitions. When a user requests a non-catalog item, a category item is associated with it.

You add category items to category nodes when you create a category catalog in the form.

You must create as many items as required from the financial posting, item statistics, Intrastat reporting, and vendor perspectives. When a purchase order is created based on a purchase requisition, the category item is registered on the purchase order line. The category item carries information about financial posting, inventory posting, Intrastat, and so on.

You create category items the same way you create other types of items, but we recommend that you select the item type and set up the item as you would for service items.
