You can send e-mail messages to contacts in Microsoft Dynamics AX by selecting the e-mail icon. To save sent copies of your e-mail messages, you must set up Microsoft Office Outlook integration in the form. You can send e-mail and save copies of them in Microsoft Dynamics AX from the following forms:

  • - You can send an e-mail or an SMS message from the tab. You can also send an e-mail with an active document attached from the form, which is opened from the form. The e-mail address will be automatically filled in with the address that is specified in the tab.

  • - You can send an e-mail from the tab. You can also send an e-mail with an active document attached from the form, which is opened from the form. The e-mail address will be automatically filled in with the address that is specified in the tab.

  • - You can send an e-mail with an active document attached from the form. The e-mail address is automatically filled in with the e-mail address for the contact person who is selected in the tab.

  • - You can send an e-mail message that has the active document attached from the form. Because the form has not been opened from the , , or form, you must manually enter the e-mail recipient's address.

  • - You can send an e-mail message to an active e-mail group.

Multiple recipients

To send e-mail messages to multiple contacts, you must use the e-mail groups.

To send e-mail messages to multiple contacts, you must use the form.

Copy to clipboard

Use the button to copy the highlighted document to the Windows clipboard. The document can then be pasted into an e-mail message that you created from Microsoft Outlook.

Target icon

If the target icon shows, you can drag files from Microsoft Windows or e-mail messages from Microsoft Outlook onto the target icon. The files or e-mail messages are then shown in the form.

Copies of sent e-mail messages

When an e-mail is sent from Microsoft Dynamics AX, a copy of the e-mail message is saved if:

  • Outlook and Microsoft Dynamics AX are running on the same computer.

  • The e-mail is sent to a contact person or a business relation.

Note Note

When you send an e-mail message to employees, a copy is not created.


  • The e-mail message was sent from:

    • The form.

    • The form.

    • The form opened from the or the form.

    In each case, a reference to the copy of the e-mail can be attached to a contact, a business relation, or a quotation.

    NoteIf the e-mail is sent directly from the form, ( > ), a copy of the e-mail is not saved because there is no specified contact person, business relation, or quotation.
