1. Activate the dimension set and dimension set hierarchy functionality:

   1. Click Administration> Setup> System> Configuration .

   2. Expand the General ledger - advancedtree node and select the Dimension set hierarchycheck box.

2. Select a number sequence for dimensions. If the number sequence is not already selected:

   1. Click General ledger> Setup> Parameters .

   2. On the Number sequencestab, select a number sequence for the reference value Dimension priority ID.

1. Click General ledger> Setup> Dimensions> Dimension sets .

2. In the upper pane, press CTRL + N to create a line for a dimension set.

3. In the Setfield, enter a unique identifier for the dimension set.

4. In the Descriptionfield, enter a brief description of the dimension set.

5. On the Dimensiontab, drag the dimensions for the dimension set from the Available dimensionspane to the Selected dimensionspane, starting with the dimension of highest priority in the dimension set.

   For example, if the Departmentdimension is listed first, and the Cost centerdimension second, the Cost centerdimension is dependent on the Departmentdimension.

6. Press CTRL+S to save the composition of the set.

1. Repeat step 1 to 3 in the procedure above.

2. On the Dimensiontab, drag the dimension from the Available dimensionspane to the Selected dimensionspane.

3. On the Parenttab, select the parent set. In the Shared dimensionpane, select the dimension of the parent set that rules the subset, either Cost centeror Department.

   For example, you have:

   • Dimension sets Department/ Cost centerand Department/ Purpose.

   • The Department/ Purposeis a subset of Department/ Cost center.

   In this case, select Departmentin the Shared dimensionpane.

4. Press CTRL+S to save the composition of the dimension set. When the dimension set is saved, the Subsetcheck box is automatically selected.

When the dimension sets are created, you can create dimension set hierarchies for each dimension set in the lower pane of the Dimension setsform and set up the structure of each dimension set hierarchy in the Structure designerform, as described in Create dimension set hierarchies.

Finally, if you want to achieve even more precise control in the posting of dimension values, you can set up dimension set rules in the Dimension set rulesform, as described in Create dimension set rules.
