Use this wizard to:

  • Create a product model.

  • Create modeling variables.

  • Create variable groups.

  • Set up item generation.

  • Test the model.

  • Approve the model.

Note Note

The wizard can be set up to appear automatically when the user is creating product models from the form. This can be done by opening the form, clicking > , and selecting the check box.

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this wizard.

  • Read the information given in this screen.

  • Click to create a product model.

Note Note

As you work to complete the wizard, you can click any of the following buttons that are located at the bottom of the wizard to correct previous information or end the wizard:

Click to end the wizard and close the form.

Click to close the wizard without saving changes you have made.

Click to go back to a previous screen and change or check a previous entry.


  • Specify the product model number and type its description.

    If the number sequence for product model identification is activated, the field is completed automatically.

  • Click to continue.

Note Note

The button becomes available after you enter the product model number.

If you click , the form opens and you can select the model that already exists to copy. Select the one you want to copy from. Click OKto return to the page.

If you choose to create the new product model from an existing one, do not create a completely new product model. Instead, copy an existing product model and change it by using the wizard.


  • Create the modeling variables to be used in your new product model. If you click , the form opens, and you can create new variables or change the existing ones.

Note Note

You cannot use special characters, such as asterisks (*), ampersands (&), spaces, or quotation marks ("), in variable names. Whenever you enter a variable name here, the system checks that it contains no illegal characters. If there are illegal characters, you receive an error message.

Also, if you try to start a variable name with a number, you get a syntax error while compiling a product model containing such a variable.


  • Click to continue.

  • Create the variable groups you need for presentation in the user dialog box. If you click , the form opens and you can create new groups or change the existing ones.

  • Click to continue.

  • Create the product model.

    If you click , the form opens and you can set up the product model (such as selection of the groups, modeling variables, creation of the modeling tree structure and validation rules).

  • Click to continue.

  • Set up the parameters if new item number must be generated for the item configuration. Click > to activate and generate items.

  • Click to continue.

  • Click to compile the product model. Afterwards, an Infolog with the information concerning found errors opens.

  • Correct the errors by clicking .

  • When there are no more errors, click .

  • Click to test the newly created product model.

  • Click to continue.

  • Click to open the form where you can approve and activate the new product model and select the item for which the model must be active.

    Use this form to also export the model, set up price combinations, graphic parameters and validation rules.

  • Click to create the product model.
