Finding table information

Use the information in this procedure to help you locate table information for an application.

  1. Open the Table Descriptions window.

In Microsoft Dynamics™ GP, point to Resource Descriptions in the Tools menu and choose Tables. In the Report Writer, Modifier, or Dexterity, choose Table Descriptions from the File menu.

  1. Open the Table Names window.

Click lookup button for the Table field to display the Table Names window.

  1. Select the product and series.

In the Table Names window, select the product in which you want to locate table information.

To find a particular table quickly, click the Find button and type the table name in the Find window (for tables).

  1. View table name information.

Select the series and a sorting method in the View By field. A list of all tables within that series will appear.

To view two lines of information, including the technical name and table group technical name, click the "show" button in the upper right corner of the scrolling window.

  1. Print table information (optional).

To print all the table names for the selected product and series, click Print. Select printing destinations, then click OK.

  1. Select a table.

To view additional information about one of the tables in the Table Names window, select a table and click OK. The Table Descriptions window will appear.

  1. View table field information.

To view information about an individual field in the table, select it in the scrolling window and click Field Info. The Additional Field Information window will be displayed.

  1. View form and report information.

Click the Usage button to open the Table Usage window. This window contains a list of all the forms that use the data stored in this table and a list of all the reports that use data from the table.

  1. View table relationships and required fields.

To view comments about a table, click the Additional Info button in the Table Descriptions window; the Additional Table Information window will be displayed. This window contains information about other tables that this table is related to, as well as indicating which fields are required for records to be stored properly in the table.

Use the Secondary Table list to display all the tables that are related to this table. When you select one of these tables, additional information about the relationship between the tables will be displayed in the Secondary Table Key, Related Fields and Relationship Type fields.
