Shipment reservation defines how and where the shipment reservation process reserves. The reservation process can either reserve a full pallet and create an output pallet transport from any bulk location, or use a picking route and reserve from the item picking location, any picking location, any inbound location, any bulk location, or any outbound location. The reservation can be a combination of these methods and the exact sequence in which the methods are applied can be defined. Please see 'Shipment reservation methods' section below for details.

The combination of methods and the sequence in which they are used are defined in the form.

For example, one reservation combination, Combination "Pick", could be:

Another reservation combination, Combination "All", could be:

A shipment reservation combination can be used as is or shipment reservation combinations can be put together into a shipment reservation sequence. Shipment reservation sequences are defined in the form.

For example, a shipment reservation sequence, Sequence "S1", could be:

Start making reservation on picking locations in warehouse A and then warehouse B. Next, reserve in all warehouses within the site at all location types and do so in the assigned sequence.

  1. Warehouse A, Combination "Pick"

  2. Warehouse B, Combination "Pick"

  3. [No warehouse], Combination "All"

Another reservation combination, Sequence "S2", could be:

Start making reservation in warehouse A and then warehouse B within all location types and do so in the assigned sequence. Next, reserve in all warehouses within the site.

  1. Warehouse A, Combination "All"

  2. Warehouse B, Combination "All"

  3. [No warehouse], Combination "All"

Shipment reservation sequences are defined per site and can be specific to a warehouse.

Once the foundation in the form of shipment reservation combinations and shipment reservation sequences have been defined, shipment templates can be defined in the form.

The form, the form and the form are all available from > > . For more information, see Manage the shipment reservation sequence.

Shipment reservation methods

Method

Description

A full pallet is physically reserved at the bulk location according to the setting on the item and output pallet transports are created.

If the required quantity is on hand, items are physically reserved on the item picking location defined on the form.

For this reservation method, two additional options are available that can be selected individually. This means that the reservation method could potentially appear four times in a combination.

:

If a refill pallet transport does not exist for the picking location, a refill pallet transport will be created according to the refill rules and reserved as ordered on the picking location. The items will be reserved even though the option has not been selected.

:

Reservation could be based a purchase order line with the specific item picking location defined.

Reservation is made at random picking locations and assigned to a picking route.

Batch shipment reservations

For consolidated picking shipment types, you can run several shipment reservations at once. You can do this by running the Shipment reservation (class form)batch job from > > .

Reservation in a multisite environment

In a multisite environment reservations can only be from warehouses within the same site; the warehouse must be of type .

The reservation need not be warehouse-specific: it is possible to specify only. In such cases the reservation process will use a random sequence of warehouses.

Running the reservation again

If all items have not been reserved, the shipment reservation process allows re-running the shipment reservation, partial reservations and adding of items to an ongoing shipping process. Picking can be started of the items that are on hand, even if the complete shipment has not been reserved.

Note Note

If multisite is activated, the reservation can only be from warehouses within the same site.
