Use this form to set up the organization units within your company. For example, you can set up your companies, departments, or workgroups and differentiate between the following types of organization units:

  • Line

  • Matrix

  • Project

Note Note

You cannot copy or move units from one type to another.


Navigating the form

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

Overview tab

View and edit a list of organizational units for your company.

General tab

View and edit the information about the organization unit selected on the tab.

View and edit registration and routing information associated with the organization unit selected on the tab.

Address tab

View and edit the addresses associated with the organization unit selected on the tab.

Contact info tab

View and edit contact information associated with the organization unit selected on the tab.

Dimension tab

From the drop-down lists, select field dimensions for the organization unit selected on the tab.

Select this check box to display only expired records in this form.

Select this check box to display only active records in this form.

Select this check box to display only future records in this form.

Select this check box to open the tree view. By selecting or clearing this check box, you can view the organization units either as a hierarchy in a tree view or as an overview.

Identify the organization unit. After you create the unit, you cannot change the value. Instead, you must delete it and create a new organization unit with the correct information.

Displays the directory ID that is associated with the selected organization unit.

Enter or select a description for the selected organization unit.

Parent unit to which the unit is subordinate.

Short code

Enter a unique code of up to 5 characters identifying the organization in Payroll reports.

This field is available only if you are using Payroll.


The date when the organization becomes active.

The day after the day when the organization becomes inactive.

Select the employee who is responsible for the unit. Select from the staff employed in the unit.

Enter the company registration number.

Enter the company tax exempt number.

Identify branch/subsidiary used with tax exempt number.

Enter the data processing registration number of the company.

Enter the company's account number with the mail or parcel delivery service.

Enter the identification code of the financial activity group.

Select this check box to mark the address record as the primary address for the organization unit.

Payroll uses the address for the highest organization unit in your organization hierarchy for W2 reports (U.S. only), T4 reports (Canada only), and paychecks.

Enter the name for the address record for the selected organization unit.

Enter the street name of the address.

Enter the ZIP/postal code district.

Enter the city for ZIP/postal code.

Enter the county in which the address is located.

Enter the state in which the address is located.

Enter the unique identification of the country/region in which the address is located.

Enter the type ID for the contact information that is associated with the selected organization unit.

Select the status of the contact information for the organization unit.

Enter a URL or an e-mail address for the organization unit.

Enter or view additional information about the selected organization unit, such as address information.

Create or update date effective records.

Display the positions attached to a unit.

Create or update jobs.

Display strategic plans related to the current unit.

Strategic plans for subordinate units are not displayed.


Calculate the number of employees affiliated with the current unit.

Enter the number of full-time employees that are employed in the organization unit and view the total head-count cost.

Move one or more employees from one organization unit to another.
