Use this form to view and create product models and attach versions (item numbers) to them. These item numbers represent items for which the product model will be in force. A product model can be active for several items at the same time—but a specific item can never have more than one active product model in the same date interval.

The procedure for version handling is the same as for standard Microsoft Dynamics AX bills of material.

Navigating the form

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

Buttons

Upper pane

Button

Description

Build or change the currently selected product model.

Create validation rules. By default, the rules will be connected to the currently selected product model. If you want to create a rule for some other model, select its number in the field when creating a rule.

Approve the currently selected product model.

Open a menu with the following items:

  • – Compile the code that has been created for the product model. In this process, the product model is tested for errors, and the compiled code is stored in Microsoft Dynamics AX in the layer that is selected in the field in the Product Builder parameters form. ( > > )

  • – Perform a syntax check of all the validation rules that are currently attached to the selected product model. Validation rules for the whole product model are checked.

  • – Overwrite the currently selected product model with a copy of another product model.

  • – Make an external copy, in a text file, of the current product model.

  • – Import a previously exported product model file.

  • – Generate Web forms for your product models to make them accessible from the Internet. You will specify the language of the Web forms.

  • – Generate a static form (the form) in a selected language to be called for the current model.

  • – Start a test run of the product model after it has been compiled without errors.

    Note Note

Even if you have not yet added any nodes to the modeling tree, you can still use the button to test the form that is created based on the product model's setup.

Open a menu with the following items:

  • – Create price combinations that calculate the sales price of configured items.

    Note Note

The price is calculated according to the price combinations that were set up if the check box is not selected in the form. Otherwise, the standard BOM price calculation is used.

  • – Select whether the product model should generate new item numbers, configuration IDs, or size and color IDs for configured items. You can also specify how these generated IDs will be formatted.

  • – Set up graphics for the current product model. Select which modeling variables will influence the item graphic representation, in which folder drawings for the current product model will be saved, and how the file names will be generated. You can also set up intervals for the variable to decrease the number of drawings you have to create.

  • – Select whether the wizard will automatically appear when you create a new product model.

Fields

Field

Description

Type a unique product model number. It can contain letters and numbers. It is the primary ID used when you want to locate product models in all contexts. The field must be filled in when a new product model is created.

Product model numbers can also be automatically assigned to new product models if an appropriate number sequence is set up for this purpose on the tab page of the form.

Type the product model name.

Select an item group for customizing the item number lookup. Items belonging to the selected group will be displayed on a separate tab when looking up items to be attached to the current product model.

Note Note

Item groups are created and maintained under > . For more information, see Item group (form).

If this check box is selected, the product model has been approved.

Note Note

The check box value cannot be changed manually. To approve the product model, click , and then select any employee registered in Microsoft Dynamics AX as an approver.

Select the item that is configurable with the current product model.

Specify the first date on which the selected item will be configurable with the current product model.

Note Note

The date fields are optional. If you do not specify any dates, the version line will be valid for all dates.

The last date on which the selected item will be configurable with the current product model.

Note Note

The date fields are optional. If you do not specify any dates, the version line will be valid for all dates.

Select the check box to make the current product model active for the specified item within the specified date interval (if any).

If there is another product model that is active for the same item at the same time, you will receive an error message in the Infolog. An item may have several product models registered as 'active' in the system, but only if the date intervals on the version lines do not overlap.

Note Note

A version line registered without a date interval is valid for all dates. Therefore, its dates will overlap any date interval, and the item for which it is valid will not be allowed to have any other active product models.
