Use this form to create and manage dimension sets. Use the upper pane to create dimension sets and relations between dimension sets on the tab. Attach hierarchies to the selected dimension set in the lower pane, and click to build the hierarchies.

A dimension set is a grouping of selected dimensions sorted with a specific priority. Each dimension type, for example, can only be assigned to one set, unless the set is a subset.

A subset is a set that contains a dimension type that is already a component of another dimension set. It is required to drive (control) different dimension types according to a common type, for example, driving both the and the dimensions, when these do not relate. The subset becomes a dependant of the parent set.

You cannot delete a dimension set that is used in a hierarchy or is the parent set of one or more subsets. You must change the parent of the subsets or delete the subsets, before deleting the parent set.

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

Tabs

Upper pane

Tab

Description

Overview tab

Create and view dimension sets and subsets.

General tab

View the tab information for the dimension set that is selected on the tab and attach a default hierarchy.

Select a parent set for the current dimension set. If more than one dimension type is selected for the parent, also select which dimension of the parent to share.

Select one or more dimension types for the current set by moving the relevant dimension types from the pane to the pane.

The set cannot be edited if it is a parent set of any other set. A subset is not prevented from being edited.

The bar at the bottom of the form reflects the entry order for the current dimension set.

Buttons

Upper pane

Button

Description

Create or edit dimension set rules for the current dimension set.

List the hierarchies and rules that use the selected dimensions set.

Lower pane

Button

Description

For the selected hierarchy, access the structure designer to create or edit the hierarchy.

Copy the selected hierarchy to a new hierarchy.

Print the selected dimension set hierarchy.

Print report that shows row definitions, hierarchies, and financial statements that use the selected hierarchy.

Fields

Field

Description

Identification of the dimension set.

Brief description of the dimension set.

If the check box is selected, the set is a subset of another dimension set.

Select default hierarchy for the current dimension set. Only hierarchies that are updated and approved can be selected. The hierarchy is consequently displayed in the lower pane.

The default hierarchy is used to restrict dimension values when no rule is identified by the system.

If you want, select a parent dimension set for the current dimension set and also select the dimension on the parent that should be shared.

Identification of the hierarchy.

Brief description of the hierarchy.

If the check box is selected, the dimension set hierarchy has been updated since the last modification. The update is done in the form. The check box cannot be edited.

Select the check box to approve an updated dimension set hierarchy.
