Microsoft Dynamics AXmenu > Tools>

Use this form to define your personal settings for Microsoft Dynamics AX.

An administrator can use this form to define settings for a specific user by selecting the user in the form and clicking the button.

Tabs are available based on user role. For example, a user who has developer rights sees more tab options than a basic user. Users who have administrator rights can see all tabs and options.

Navigating the form

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

Tracing Methods

Purpose

Monitor SQL communication with the SQL database backend. This is typically used only in the development environment.

Locate single SQL statements that exceed a user-defined time. Use the field to define the length of a long-running query in milliseconds.

Tip Tip

This method is useful in both development and testing environments to find and remove performance bottlenecks (using low query time thresholds), and in production environments for monitoring (using a long query time threshold).

Warn the developer when code fragments or constructions force the kernel to make changes. Performance-related warnings are also issued.

Use tracing deadlocks to pinpoint bottlenecks in multiuser environments.

Note Note

This does not enable or disable the standard deadlock handling in Microsoft Dynamics AX.

Receive a query plan from the database that lists the steps that are needed to fulfill a given query.

All four tracing methods can independently be directed to up to four different output media. For more information about tracing, see the Microsoft Dynamics AX developer documentation.

Output media

Description

Use for instant display. This is typically used for simple tracing during development.

Use this option to accumulate information and to have an interface to the powerful form.

Use this option to collect large amounts of information by storing trace output in the database. This lets you work with the data later. For more information, see the form.

Use this option to collect large amounts of information by writing the trace output to a file. The full path is shown in the field. This option also gives access to the form, including visual query plan analyzer and access to the calling function in X++.

Specify which warning messages should be displayed when you delete or update.

View the list of tables that can be preloaded.

The option loads all the data from a SQL database table when the table is first accessed. This can improve performance and scalability for frequently accessed static data. Preloading can reduce potential bottlenecks in the database.

Evaluate the tradeoff between initial load time and later access time. If you access the information frequently and for a longer time, preloading the information will provide performance gains. If you perform limited lookups and maintain the session for a limited time, you might not want to preload large amounts of data.

A table can be preloaded only if the CacheLookup property is set to EntireTable in the Application Object Tree (AOT). This means that all records in the table are placed in the cache the first time that the data is accessed.

If the usage pattern for a user indicates that a given table should not be preloaded (to speed up initial access), the option can be disabled for only that user. If a table is so large that the initial load time exceeds gains in access time, deactivate preloading for all users by deactivating the option for the Admin user.

To select a table for preloading, select the check box next to the table ID. If you cannot select the check box, preloading has been deactivated for the table for all users.

Note Note

Modifying the data in a preloaded table will cause Microsoft Dynamics AX to preload the data again the next time the table is accessed.

Preferred time zone

Set the time zone you prefer to view data in. Your preferred time zone is initially set to that of your Windows locale, although it may have been changed by an administrator.

Preferred calendar

This option appears only if the language is set to AR (Arabic). Set the calendar you prefer to use to calculate year and date values. Options include the following:

Gregorian- Default. The calendar used for non-Arabic languages.

Hijri- A calendar that can be used in regions that use the Hijri calendar based on the algorithm that is used by the government of Kuwait.

Um al-Qura- A calendar that can be used in regions that use the Hijri calendar based on the Um al-Qura algorithm that is used by the government of Saudi Arabia. This calendar is available only if the Microsoft Dynamics AX client is on a computer that is running Windows Vista.

Time zone mismatch notification

If this option is selected, the user will receive a notification when the time zone of the Microsoft Dynamics AX client does not match the Windows locale of the client computer.

Specify the level of Infolog detail.

Note Note

If the detail level is set to , historical errors and warnings cannot be viewed.

Set the number of minutes a client can be idle before Microsoft Dynamics AX shuts down automatically.

A value of 0 means that the system never shuts down automatically.
