Use this form to edit configuration groups used in the allocation of configuration groups to the individual BOM lines.

By using configuration groups, you can create bills of materials where the program, by using a bill of material, selects a particular BOM line based on the specified configuration group.

The BOM item must be attached to a Inventory dimensions (form), where the check box is selected in the item dimension .

Example

Two items in the BOM lines (bicycle frames) are allocated to the same configuration group, which could, for example, be called Frame. This means that two configurations, one for each frame, can be created for the BOM item. You type the BOM item number (bicycle) into a sales order line, and the desired configuration or bicycle can be set up in the Configure item (form)dialog box.

Based on this principle, a whole bicycle can be defined as one BOM item composed of various frames, wheels, and handlebars, which you then choose between when configuring. The advantage is that you do not have to create a BOM item for all the possible combinations that exist. However, the various combinations must share the same general data, which is specified in the inventory base data.

A bicycle comes in two different frame sizes. You can create two BOM items (two bicycles), each with its own item number (frame) in the BOM lines. Alternatively, you can create one BOM item (one item number for the bicycle), where you select one of the frames.
