With a template BOM you have a standardized list of components for service objects that are serviced regularly. The components listed in the template BOM represent the individual sub-components of the service object. When you apply a template BOM to a service object, you have a service BOM to keep a record of what spare parts have been replaced on the service object.
To apply a template BOM to a service agreement or a service order, you attach it to a service object relation.

Applying the
template BOM on a service agreement or on a service order
The template BOM can be applied to a service agreement and to a service order. The service agreement usually covers a long-term relationship with a customer. The history of replacements recorded on the service BOM is useful data to record on the service agreement.
You can also apply a service BOM to a service order to record the history of service performed on a service object and keep a record of the type of service work that is performed by the company.
Moving the history of a service BOM
You can move the history of a service BOM line from one service agreement to another service agreement. By moving the service history between service agreements, you can preserve the records of replacements on an item.
Example
You have set up a three-year service agreement for a customer's car. When the three-year period has expired, the customer has become accustomed to the good service that the company provides and wants to set up a new agreement. You are now able to negotiate a more favorable agreement for the company. Because the record of replaced components might come in useful in the future, you move the history of the service BOM to the new agreement.
Methods of
creating a template BOM
You can create a template BOM by selecting one of the following four methods:

Production - The template BOM is based on a production order. This option is applicable if you operate within a production environment. The benefit is that you have a current, detailed listing of the components that make up an item.

Item BOM - The template BOM is based on an item BOM which, unlike the production BOM, is the static list of the components that make up an item.

Existing template - The template is based on an existing template BOM.

Manual - If you know exactly what spare parts are typically replaced on a service object, you might prefer to create your template BOM manually. With this approach make sure that the components included on the template reflect the actual requirements of your workplace.
Replacing
items listed on the BOM
If you replace an item within the BOM, you can register the replacement on the BOM line in the BOM designer. Optionally, you can specify that you want to create a service order line for the replacement object. If a service order line is created, you can invoice the replacement item. If you do not create a service order line for a replacement, the replacement registration is retained for your records to track the history of the service object.
Modifying the
template BOM
If the template BOM has not been attached to a service object, you can modify a template BOM (change or delete lines). After the template BOM is attached to a service object, you can only modify the local version of the BOM. If you want to duplicate the setup of a local version of a template BOM, you can create a new template BOM based on the local version. Modifying the
way the BOM line information is displayed
You can change the way BOM line information is displayed for all template and service BOMs. Any display setup changes that you make will apply to all template and service BOMs regardless of whether the template BOMs have been attached to service object relations.
