Use this form to create and define work center groups to help manage production. Work center groups have to be set up before creating work centers. Work centers with similar functions in the production process are usually assigned to the same work center group. The parameters for the group are the default parameters for each work center in this group. This eliminates the need to define parameters for each work center individually.

It is better not to change work center groups after they are created unless you want to make changes to their specific characteristics. However, you can make changes to individual work centers at any time, without these changes affecting the characteristics assigned to the group as a whole.

Capacity load is placed on the work center group during operation scheduling and on the individual work centers during job scheduling. When you run job scheduling, the application will examine all possible work center combinations and select the one with the shortest lead time. Depending on the number of work centers, this could affect performance. There can be a maximum of 32 work centers involved in the scheduling of one operation. If you exceed this number, an message appears.

Overview tab

Create and view work center groups and their types, names, and associated calendars.

General tab

View or edit general information for the selected work center group. Each work center group can be assigned a different type. For example, if the jobs or operations are performed by an external work center (subsupplier), select . In this case, you will have to assign a vendor account number to the work center group. If there is no account number, the application will not reserve capacity, even though the time planned for the vendor to conduct the work will already be calculated as production time in scheduling.

Note Note

You can schedule operations on the work center group and the work center. However, work centers must be associated with a group and each work center group must be associated with at least one work center. If the operation in the production route is associated with a group, the capacities of all associated work centers are included in operations scheduling. The optimum work center in the designated group will not be selected until job scheduling is complete.

Assign issue and receipt accounts for work in progress (WIP).

Assign routing groups to the work center group. The routing group determines the methods for calculating records and schedules and for handling feedback. You can also assign cost categories, which control financial transactions that are associated with the work center groups.

Enter the values for calculating production times in the selected work center group. You can override the times on the route, production route, and individual work center.

View the creation date of the work center group and the number of work centers it contains.

View the department, cost center, and purpose for the selected work center group.

Create or update information for the work centers that are associated with the selected work center group. Work centers are attached to work center groups and are used to manage the company's production system.

Create or update working times for the current transaction. Working times are used to define available capacity for particular days and times in an associated calendar.

Note Note

Associate the work center group with a calendar that defines both the total available capacity and the time of day that the hours are available. The times are used to calculate the start and end times for the operations in the work center group. The time capacity available is generated based on the working time template that is associated with the calendar.

Create or update calendar deviations for the work center or work center group.

Run inquiries that are connected to the work center group. These include route transactions, capacity load, and reservations.

View uses for the work center group. These include associated operation relations, production routes, and task groups.

Set up a chart to show production and projects that are used by the selected work center. For more information, see the form.

Specify if the work center operates with limited capacity.

Select the check box to define the current work center group as a bottleneck resource. A bottleneck resource is scheduled by using finite capacity when the field and the field on the form are selected.

Capacity per hour in capacity unit.

Unit the capacity is measured in.

Select the issue account for work in process.
