Use this form to create and run a job schedule. As opposed to operations scheduling, which provides you with a general estimate of the production process over a period of time, job scheduling provides you with a detailed schedule of current capacity. The limitations of your work center, as defined in your setup parameters for work centers, are considered when scheduling resources for production tasks. The process involves determining and adjusting the limits of capacity. The capacity demands for production are transferred into hours of work (right down to seconds, if necessary) per work center, per time period.

Job scheduling is done after operations scheduling – for productions using the operations scheduling function – or it is conducted alone. It allows an operation to be broken down into all of its individual task times. An accurate detail schedule is created because you can control the following factors in the process:

  • Queue time before operation

  • Setup time

  • Process – Run time

  • Overlap time

  • Transport time

  • Queue time after operation

Establish maximum capacities for work centers per job order

Individual work centers are assigned jobs through job scheduling. You can establish maximum capacities for work centers per job order.

For example, you can set up your system with the restriction that no more than 50 percent of total capacity can be operations – scheduled to one production order. This allows you greater control over the scheduling of resources on the job scheduling level, which prevents problems from arising when there is not enough capacity available to perform simultaneous productions.

Tasks of the job scheduling process

  • Split each operation into jobs.

  • Schedule each job based on the dates and times for the work centers specified for the .

  • Calculate starting and ending times for each job using limited capacity to ensure that there are not overlapping times.

  • If a work center group is specified for an operation, the job scheduling run determines which work centers that the jobs are run on in the work center group. This is based on the principle of the shortest possible lead time, since other existing reservations on the work centers are taken into consideration

  • Job scheduling results in operations that are exploded into jobs. The jobs are scheduled by date and time in the order indicated by the production route. The setup determines which jobs are exploded in the scheduling process. The setup attached to the controls whether jobs are generated. A job is generated only if it has a specific duration. For example, a transport time job is generated if a transport time was given for the current .

Fields

Field

Description

Specify the production to be scheduled. If you selected the scheduling from the form, the current production is displayed. You can choose from productions with production statuses other than or . Alternatively, you can select productions using the button.

Specify the desired scheduling direction for the production order. The following options exist:

  • – Scheduling forward from the current date. The current date is the system date. You can specify a time that job scheduling should start.

  • – Scheduling forward from an earlier starting date. If there is no previous scheduling, then scheduling will be .

  • – Scheduling forward from the scheduling date specified in the field. If you have not specified a scheduling date, then scheduling will be .

  • – Scheduling backward from the delivery date specified for the production order. For more information about the delivery date, see . If you select this scheduling option and no delivery date is specified, then the delivery date will be set to the current date.

  • – Scheduling backward from a previously calculated ending date. If there is no previous scheduling, then the ending date is set to the current date.

  • – Scheduling backward from the scheduling date, which you can specify in the field. If you do not indicate a scheduling date, it will be set to the current date.

  • – Scheduling backward from the action date calculated for the production order the last time a requirement was calculated. If no action date is specified for the production order, it will be set to the current date.

  • - Scheduling backward from the futures date calculated for the production order the last time a requirement was calculated. If no futures date has been specified for the production order, then the futures date will be set to the current date.

  • – In connection with operations scheduling and job scheduling, the selected scheduling direction and date are saved. You can select this option for subsequent scheduling. If there is no previous scheduling of the production order, then scheduling will be backward from the current date.

  • – Scheduling forward from the current date + one day. The current date is the system date.

  • – This function is relevant only for job scheduling. If you select this option for operations scheduling, the production order is scheduled forward from the current date. In job scheduling, scheduling is established for one job, and all other jobs for the production are scheduled accordingly. The current job is specified in the field. That means that if you select one job and select , then job scheduling will be based on the placement in time for the previous job. The current job 2 is placed behind job 1, and the other jobs for the production are placed behind them. This might be useful if the schedule should be based on a specific job. If no job is specified in the field, the planned order is scheduled forward from the current date. If this is the first job scheduling, then the planned order also is scheduled forward from the current date.

  • – This function is relevant only for job scheduling. If you select this scheduling direction for operations scheduling, planned orders are scheduled backwards from the current date. Job scheduling is based on a specific job, and all other jobs for the production are scheduled according to that job. You specify the current job in the field. If you specify a job and you select , then job scheduling is based on the placement of the previous job in time. If no job is specified in field, then the planned order is scheduled backward from the current date. If this is the first job scheduling, then the planned order is scheduled backward from the current date.

Job, if any, that the scheduling is to be based on.

Date used for the or scheduling direction. Scheduling is then made backward or forward from that date. For more information about the scheduling direction, see .

Time that scheduling should be based in if the scheduling direction is selected.

New work center to be used for the job specified in field.

If you select this field and underlying or overlying productions are attached, those productions are scheduled according to the main production. In relation to the current production, overlying productions are scheduled forward, and the underlying productions are scheduled backwards. Production order references can be viewed in the field in the form.

Select this option if the productions that are related to the production specified in the field are scheduled based on the starting and ending times for production. To select this option, the field also must be selected. When job scheduling, you also can specify a . The other jobs for the current production and reference productions are scheduled according to this job.

Select this check box if job scheduling should observe capacity limits.

Select this check box to specify that the materials should be considered limited during scheduling. If the materials are limited, the coverage of material for that time is taken into account. Scheduling takes into account the item futures dates for the items and reserves raw materials and explodes the current production. If scheduling takes place several times, only the first scheduling runs an explosion and makes reservations.

If you make changes in the production BOM or route, then the next scheduling runs an explosion. The explosion is based on the calculation of materials that are needed the same day, which is the date of scheduling. Since the production is not scheduled at the time of the master schedule explosion, then the current date is used as the best estimate of when the items will become available. The explosion then checks whether the items are on hand. If the items are on hand, then satisfying the production requirement is not a problem. If the items are not on hand by the current date, then a planned order is generated and an offset selection is made for the planned order.

If automatic-firming is set for the planned order, the planned order is firmed automatically for purchase or production. The status for production automatically changes to the status specified in the field in the form. Clear the check box if the materials always should be considered as available. Therefore, scheduling does not take into consideration whether the materials are on hand at the time of requirement.
