Use this form to manage inventory locations in a warehouse. You can identify an item location by its coordinates: aisle, rack, shelf, and bin.

Navigating the form

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

Overview tab

View, edit, or create inventory locations.

General tab

Displays additional information about the location selected on the Overview tab.

Define a check text and the location type, or specify a blocking cause for the location. You can also set up the sort order of locations.

View a graphical presentation of the locations. Locations appear in a tree structure based on their coordinates. The tree structure window can also be used to find a specific location.

To define the setup of the tree structure, click and select the data to be displayed. Select the check box to view the number of locations in the underlying levels of the tree, such as the number of racks in an aisle or the number of shelves on a rack.

Description

Identifies the warehouse that contains the location. Used as a reference to the location, together with the location name.

The name of the location, used as a reference to the location together with the warehouse. Typically, the name is generated automatically according to the location's coordinator (aisle, rack, shelf, and bin) based on the setup in the Locations (form). If you want to enter the name manually, you must first select .

Identifies different uses of the locations.

The following types are available:

  • – Identifies locations where items are received and registered.

  • – Identifies locations where items are gathered before dispatch.

  • – Identifies locations where items are stored until they are either moved to an outbound dock or used to fill a picking location.

  • – Identifies locations where items have fixed picking locations. Used for shipping quantities that are less than whole pallets.

Maximum number of pallets that can be held at the location.

Current number of pallets at the location.

Number of pallet positions at the location that are neither occupied nor reserved.

Location's aisle coordinate. The location has the following coordinates: Warehouse, Aisle, Rack, Shelf, and Bin. Select one of the aisles that was created for the warehouse.

Location's rack coordinate. The location has the following coordinates: Warehouse, Aisle, Rack, Shelf, and Bin.

Location's shelf coordinate. The location has the following coordinates: Warehouse, Aisle, Rack, Shelf, and Bin.

Location's position coordinate. The location has the following coordinates: Warehouse, Aisle, Rack, Shelf, and Bin.

The warehouse and the location's name uniquely identify a location.

Usually, the location name is generated automatically by its coordinator (aisle, rack, shelf, and bin), but you can also specify the name directly. To do so, you must first select this check box.

By selecting the check box, you can also change the location's name. When you clear the check box, the system automatically fills in the location's name.

Identifies the store area where the location is put. This information is used when Microsoft Dynamics AX finds a location for items in connection the with item receipt.

Identifies the picking area that the location belongs to. Only those locations that belong to the same picking area are on the same picking route.

Height of the location. Specify the height that is available for the pallets. Do not include the supporting structures between the shelves.

Width of the location.

Depth of the location.

The location's volume calculated by its height, weight, and depth.

Enter the location's height above ground level. This, together with the maximum height of the forklift, ensures that only transports that the forklift can handle are selected.

Determines which types of pallets can be put at the location. See Pallet type group (form).

The text that online pickers and forklift drivers must specify in order to verify that they are at the correct location. If you do not enter a check text, operators will not be asked to enter a check text for this location.

The location where items must be delivered to be stored at this location. Ordinarily, this is the actual location, but for drive-through racks, for example, the items must be delivered at the rear.

If a location is specified for the rear of the rack, the forklift driver will be sent to that location instead of when items are to be delivered there.

If a blocking cause is given, Microsoft Dynamics AX will not select this location when it searches for a location for the items. See Blocking cause (form).

If you specified a blocking cause, Microsoft Dynamics AX will not select items from this location when it reserves a shipment. See Blocking cause (form).

Indicates whether you must manually specify the sorting code for a location or whether the sorting code can be updated by the periodic job.

The sorting code used when the picking lines are to be sorted. Used to indicate the best route through inventory.

Opens the following submenu items:

  • – Shows information about individual pallets.

  • Displays inventory available divided among inventory dimensions.

  • – Shows the inventory transactions on the item or the lot.

  • – Shows information about the lines for the picking route.

  • – Shows activities in process for a location.

  • View the setup of the item by inventory dimension.

  • – View items for which the location is the default receipt location.

  • – View items for which the location is the default issue location

Opens the following submenu items:

  • – Shows information about pallet transports from location.

  • – Shows information about pallet transports to location.

Opens the following submenu items:

  • – Lets you request that a picking location be filled with a pallet from a bulk location.

  • – Enable online counting.

  • – Copy all locations at one aisle to another aisle.

  • – Copy all locations at one rack to another rack.

  • Opens – Prints Location labels.
